In this abstract free flowing bronze, Maui artist Will Herrera combines an aesthetic flavor of Art Deco with a theme dating back to the days of Greek mythology. The resurgent bird rises from the ashes in a sculptural commentary on the creative process and the relentlessness of the universal spirit of nature and humanity.

Sunlight and shadows constantly engage in endless combinations of line and form in the shoreline waters surrounding Maui. The artistís high speed photography of fascinating shapes of leaping water as waves crashed against the sand led to the inspiration for this sculpture.

Excavation for a new resort on the island of Maui led Will Herrera to speak out sculpturally when over nine hundred skulls were discovered. The primitive "scaffolding" like forms in this work of art are built on a form with rounded footing. In this way the artist introduces the question of balance. The ring (the continuation of life) passes through the golden ring of knowledge. The gold skull cap of the ancients speaks of respect as well as bringing into focus the spiritual wealth of civilizations past.

Based on the infinity symbol, this work translates the beauty of balancing two equal quantities or forms in the language of sculpture. The harmony and movement of an abstract interplay of never ending beauty allows the viewer to find a multitude of images from nature in this sculpture.
